Halloween: The Game Beginner Guide

A source-backed introduction to the 1v4 multiplayer loop, Civilian priorities, Michael's core tools, Escapes, police calls, and progression.

The short version

Quick answer

In multiplayer, one player controls Michael Myers while four Civilians warn and escort residents, search for resources, and work toward randomized Escapes. New players should manage noise and light, stay aware of the team, and expect every Escape attempt to reveal activity to Michael.

Choose your mode

Halloween: The Game separates its major experiences clearly. Story Mode is a standalone six-chapter campaign played as Michael Myers. Multiplayer is an asymmetrical 1v4 match with one Michael player and four Civilian players.

Multiplayer roles

Michael hunts residents and Civilians. Official material also describes time-limited Special Targets that offer greater rewards. Civilians work together to warn and escort residents, search points of interest, find useful resources, and reach an Escape.

Item and Escape locations can change between matches. Treat the map as a changing search area rather than a memorized fixed route.

Civilian priorities

  1. Keep noise under control and use light carefully.
  2. Search containers and points of interest for weapons, distractions, and key items.
  3. Speak with residents. Successful conversations can help enable police calls, hiding instructions, or resident companionship.
  4. Guide persuaded residents toward an available Escape.
  5. Expect an Escape activation to create noise and reveal its exact location to Michael.

Understand Michael

Michael's documented base tools include Killer Sense and Shape Jump. Stalk supports pursuit, while Shape Jump lets Michael move through darkness. Official material also names Shape Dash, Blackout, Reality Tear, and Detection Pulse among his available tools or loadout abilities.

Patch 1.0.1 changed several balance details, including stamina pressure from Evil Presence and Stalk, Detection Pulse behavior, repeated blinds, and grabbed targets struggling free at low Stalk.

Progression basics

Civilian attributes are organized around Athleticism, Personality, Resourcefulness, and Capability. Civilian loadouts can include appearance options, starting items, and a Perk Deck. Matches grant Perk Points for card rolls and temporary upgrades.

Under Patch 1.0.1, a Perk Deck may contain no more than two copies of the same perk.

First-match checklist

  • Decide whether you are learning Story Mode or the 1v4 multiplayer loop.
  • In multiplayer, stay aware of noise, darkness, residents, and team position.
  • Search for resources without assuming the same item or Escape placement every match.
  • Treat an active Escape as a loud commitment that Michael can locate.
  • Review current patch notes before relying on older stamina or perk advice.
