Halloween: The Game Story Challenges Guide
Complete all 36 Halloween: The Game Story Challenges with chapter-by-chapter requirements, short solutions, Patch 1.0.2 fixes, rewards, and tracking notes.
The short version
Quick answer
Story Mode has six stages: the Prologue and Chapters 1–5. Post-launch gameplay sources document six challenges per stage, for 36 total, while official sources confirm the challenge system but do not publish the complete 36-item list. Patch 1.0.2 fixed four named challenge issues. Thorough requires every secondary challenge in one Story Mode chapter, not all 36; completing every Singleplayer Challenge earns an officially described legendary look.
Evidence Key
Official means a first-party Halloween: The Game or IllFonic source. Gameplay verified means a requirement or short solution is supported by at least two independent post-launch gameplay sources. Community reported identifies useful troubleshooting or current behavior that has not reached the same level of independent replication.
Official sources confirm optional challenges across all six playable Story Mode stages, but they do not publish the complete 36-item list. Post-launch gameplay sources document 36 Story Mode challenges across the Prologue and Chapters 1–5. That is why this guide uses Mixed evidence instead of presenting the gameplay checklist as an official database.
How Story Challenges Work
Story challenges are optional objectives placed alongside each stage's core objectives. They reward replaying the campaign with different targets, weapons, executions, stealth conditions, or film-inspired sequences. Players looking for the wider campaign structure can start with the single-player guide.
Gameplay documentation supports six challenges in each of the six stages, for 36 total. You can finish the story without completing all of them, while completionists can revisit stages to pursue missed requirements. The short solutions below stay at the safest supported level and leave disputed spawn points, hidden triggers, and reward mapping out of the main checklist.

Prologue — Escape from Smith's Grove
Challenge 1 — Terrify an Orderly and cause him to flee
Create enough fear for an Orderly to break away, then allow him to flee instead of immediately chasing him down. A frightened Orderly has to leave the encounter for the objective to register.
Challenge 2 — Grab and Execute 3 Orderlies
Isolate three Orderlies, grab each one, and finish the execution interaction. Avoid spending every nearby target on the telephone-pole and throw challenges before securing all three grabs.
Challenge 3 — Execute an Orderly with the telephone pole
Keep one Orderly alive until you reach a telephone pole that offers its contextual execution. Carry the grabbed Orderly into position and use the execution prompt rather than a normal melee finish.
Challenge 4 — Throw an Orderly to his death
Grab an Orderly near a raised edge or the supported throw location, then use the contextual execution that sends him over it. A normal knockdown beside the edge does not describe the required action.
Challenge 5 — Complete the chapter without alerting any Orderlies
Treat this as a separate stealth run: stay outside flashlight and sight lines, wait for patrol openings, and continue to the escape without alerting an Orderly. The aggressive challenges conflict with this condition, so combining them into the same attempt is not the safe route.
Challenge 6 — Kill or drive away every Orderly before escaping
Sweep the full playable area and account for every remaining Orderly before using the escape. Patch 1.0.2 fixed a tracking issue for this challenge; the current evidence does not justify publishing an exact Orderly count as part of the requirement.
Chapter 1 — The Road to Haddonfield
Challenge 1 — Kill everyone inside the Rabbit in Red
Clear the full Rabbit in Red interior, including side and back rooms rather than only the main bar. Finish the interior sweep before advancing the chapter far enough to lose access to required occupants.
Challenge 2 — Use Shove to stumble a Biker off balance
Leave a Biker standing long enough to use the Shove action on him. The objective is the off-balance reaction, not a particular kill or execution afterward.
Challenge 3 — Kill any target with a Broken Pool Cue
Pick up a Broken Pool Cue inside the Rabbit in Red and use it for the finishing kill on any valid target. Preserve a target until the weapon is ready.
Challenge 4 — Execute a Biker with a Context Execution
Grab a Biker beside an environmental execution point and use the contextual prompt. A regular weapon or grab execution does not satisfy the specifically documented context condition.
Challenge 5 — Kill any target with a thrown Cleaver
Find a Cleaver, aim the throw, and make the thrown weapon deliver the kill. Reported Cleaver locations conflict, so this guide does not promise one fixed spawn.
Challenge 6 — Kill three Residents in the chapter
Use the exploration portion beyond the Rabbit in Red to locate and kill three Residents before advancing the main target. Bikers are not the Residents named by the newer screenshot-backed requirement. See the full Chapter 1 Challenge 6 walkthrough for the low-risk route and current tracking boundaries.
Chapter 2 — Main Street
Challenge 1 — Execute Tanya using the Cash Register
Keep Tanya alive until you can grab her beside the Cash Register and use its contextual execution. Killing her elsewhere removes the target needed for the challenge.
Challenge 2 — Execute Rachel using an Environmental Kill
Follow Rachel into the cemetery, grab her near a supported environmental execution, and use that prompt for the kill. A normal attack is not the environmental finish requested.
Challenge 3 — Grab and Execute Slab while he is urinating
Allow Slab's cemetery routine to reach the urination sequence, then grab and execute him while that action is still in progress. Moving too early can interrupt the required window.
Challenge 4 — Temple Stab Eric in the hardware store stockroom
Keep Eric available, move him into the hardware store stockroom, and position the grab until the Temple Stab interaction appears. The current evidence supports the location and execution name but not a universal exact Stalk tier for this Hub.
Challenge 5 — Kill all 3 of Rachel's friends
Track Rachel's three friends as they separate and kill all three before finishing the stage. Take note of their directions during the cemetery sequence so none is lost from the route.
Challenge 6 — Complete the chapter without alerting anyone
Stay unseen and prevent the alert state while completing the required chapter path. Patch 1.0.2 fixed certain executions incorrectly counting as alerting someone, so older advice claiming executions automatically fail this challenge is outdated.
Chapter 3 — Returning Home
Challenge 1 — Use the Campfire Kill to execute Jennifer
Preserve Jennifer until you can grab her and use the Campfire Kill at the nearby campfire. Complete the named environmental execution instead of using a general attack.
Challenge 2 — Use the Weight Bench Kill to execute Thomas
Find Thomas around the garage and wait until the Weight Bench execution is available. Grab him, move him into the interaction position, and use the named kill.
Challenge 3 — Use the Motorcycle Kill to execute Marcus
Allow Marcus to reach the motorcycle area, then grab and position him for the Motorcycle Kill. Killing him before that setup removes the required target.
Challenge 4 — Kill both Gloria and Keith
Locate both named residents and kill each one before leaving the neighborhood. No specific weapon or execution is included in the safe requirement.
Challenge 5 — Kill 3 targets with a Wood Axe
Find a Wood Axe and keep it until it has delivered three target kills. Sources disagree about its exact spawn behavior, so search the stage rather than relying on one guaranteed location.
Challenge 6 — Kill all Residents in the neighborhood
Sweep the neighborhood methodically and clear every Resident before completing the stage. Targets already killed for the other Chapter 3 challenges can contribute to the sweep, but this Hub does not publish an unverified exact population count.
Chapter 4 — The Babysitters
Challenge 1 — Strangle Annie in the car
Let Annie's routine advance until she returns to the car, then use the scripted car interaction. Killing her before she enters the required sequence prevents the car strangulation.
Challenge 2 — Pin Bob to the wall in the kitchen
Wait until Bob reaches the kitchen, then use the contextual wall-pin execution. Patch 1.0.2 fixed an issue where Lynda could immediately leave the bedroom after Bob was killed; it did not change Bob's requirement.
Challenge 3 — Kill Lynda with the telephone while wearing the Sheet
Obtain and wear the Sheet after Bob's part of the sequence, then preserve Lynda for the telephone execution. Both the disguise and the named execution belong to the safe condition.
Challenge 4 — Kill a Resident with a Bloodthirsty Execution
Build access to a Bloodthirsty Execution, keep a normal Resident available, and perform that execution on the Resident. The exact Bloodthirst tier and fill trigger remain outside the verified requirement.
Challenge 5 — Fully Stalk Bob and Lynda while they make out in the living room
Observe Bob and Lynda from concealment during their living-room sequence and fully Stalk both before the scene advances. Keep enough distance to avoid interrupting their routine.
Challenge 6 — Complete the chapter matching the film's plot
This is the movie-accurate sequence challenge, and its ordered checkpoints need more detail than a short Hub entry can safely provide. Use the full Chapter 4 Challenge 6 walkthrough for the cross-checked route and current tracking notes.
Chapter 5
Challenge 1 — Use Blackout to disable 2 Cop flashlights at once
Bring two flashlight-carrying Cops within one Blackout's effect, then activate it once so both flashlights are disabled together. Patch 1.0.2 removed the unintended need to completely drain the flashlights; the two-at-once condition remains. See the full Chapter 5 Challenge 1 walkthrough for the current-patch setup and troubleshooting.
Challenge 2 — Kill a Cop with a Pitchfork Execution
Find a Pitchfork, preserve a Cop, and use the Pitchfork's execution rather than relying on a normal attack. Reported Pitchfork spawns conflict, so no fixed location is promised here.
Challenge 3 — Kill at least 3 other Residents before escaping
Explore occupied homes or nearby residential areas and kill three other Residents before using an escape. Complete the count before advancing to the stage exit.
Challenge 4 — Fully Stalk a police officer in the Wallace House
Locate a police officer inside the Wallace House and keep that officer in view long enough to complete the full Stalk. The location and target role matter; a different officer elsewhere does not match the safe requirement.
Challenge 5 — Escape without Loomis detecting you
Keep Loomis from detecting Michael while moving toward a valid escape. The evidence does not yet establish a mandatory sewer, Shape Jump, body-discovery rule, or other universal micro-route, so follow the literal detection condition.
Challenge 6 — Destroy any police car before escaping
Damage a police car until the game registers it as destroyed, then complete an escape. Make sure the vehicle destruction occurs before leaving the stage.
Patch 1.0.2 Changes
The official Patch 1.0.2 notes list four Story Mode challenge fixes:
- Prologue Challenge 6: fixed an issue that prevented proper tracking.
- Chapter 2 Challenge 6: certain executions no longer incorrectly count as alerting someone.
- Chapter 4 Challenge 2: fixed the issue that could make Lynda immediately leave the bedroom after Bob was killed.
- Chapter 5 Challenge 1: Cop flashlights no longer need to be completely drained for the challenge to complete.
The update made single-player challenge tracking more consistent, but the official notes also acknowledge that some challenge objectives remain unclear. The developers said they would continue improving messaging and monitoring challenge issues, so the four listed fixes are not proof that every Story Mode challenge is fixed.
Challenge Tracking and Troubleshooting
First confirm the game is updated to Patch 1.0.2, then compare the run with the exact target, action, object, timing, and alert condition shown for that challenge. Launch-week guides can contain outdated advice, especially for Chapter 2 Challenge 6 and Chapter 5 Challenge 1.
If a condition appears correct but does not register, repeating a clean stage attempt is a community troubleshooting option, not a universal official rule. There is no reliable basis for claiming that checkpoint restarts, skipped cutscenes, or every interrupted run always invalidate challenge tracking.
Thorough Achievement Explained
Thorough requires completing all secondary challenges in one Story Mode stage or chapter. Because gameplay documentation supports six challenges per stage, a full six-challenge stage clear is the relevant target; the achievement does not require all 36 Story Mode challenges.
See the Achievements & Trophies guide for the platform lists and the distinction between the 50 core achievement requirements and the PS5 Platinum.
Rewards
Official material confirms that Singleplayer Challenges can unlock alternate outfits and unique cosmetic items. It also describes challenge and collectible rewards that can include lore, executions, gameplay scenarios, and multiplayer cosmetics. The wider relationship between challenges and advancement is covered in the Perks & Progression guide.
Completing every Singleplayer Challenge unlocks what the official progression overview calls a legendary look. The official material reviewed here does not name that reward, show a complete platform comparison, or provide a complete current per-challenge reward mapping; those details are therefore not presented as verified. Story Mode recording rewards and locations remain a separate completion path covered by the Loomis Logs guide.
What Is Still Being Verified
The safe requirements above are cross-supported, but these finer details still need current first-hand UI or gameplay verification:
- the exact original UI wording and capitalization for some challenge cards;
- the exact number of Orderlies counted by Prologue Challenge 6;
- whether the Chapter 1 Cleaver has a fixed or variable spawn;
- Chapter 2 Challenge 4's exact Stalk and execution prerequisites;
- the current Wood Axe spawn behavior in Chapter 3;
- Chapter 4 Challenge 4's exact Bloodthirst tier and activation trigger;
- whether the Chapter 5 Pitchfork has a fixed or variable spawn;
- the exact detection and failure boundaries for Chapter 5 Challenge 5;
- a complete, current per-challenge reward mapping and platform parity;
- whether stage completion is always required for completed challenges to persist;
- post-Patch 1.0.2 tracking edge cases that have not been independently reproduced.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Story Mode challenges are in Halloween: The Game?
Multiple independent post-launch gameplay sources document 36 challenges across the Prologue and Chapters 1–5. Official sources confirm optional challenges across all six stages but do not publish the complete 36-item list.
How many challenges are in each chapter?
Post-launch gameplay documentation supports six challenges in each stage, including the Prologue. This makes the documented distribution six stages with six challenges each.
Do I need all 36 challenges for Thorough?
No. Thorough requires all secondary challenges in one Story Mode chapter, not all 36 challenges across the campaign.
What do you get for completing all Story Mode challenges?
The official progression overview says completing every Singleplayer Challenge unlocks a legendary look. It does not give that reward an official name in the material used here.
Are Story Mode challenges fixed in Patch 1.0.2?
Patch 1.0.2 fixed four named Story Mode challenge issues and made challenge tracking more consistent. The same official notes acknowledge unclear objectives and continued monitoring, so the patch does not establish that every challenge issue is resolved.
Why is Chapter 2 Challenge 6 not completing?
Update to Patch 1.0.2 and make a clean attempt that avoids alerting anyone. Certain executions could previously be counted as alerts; that specific problem was fixed, so do not rely on old guidance saying every execution automatically fails the challenge.
